Derk (1969) graduated in tax and private law at the University of Leiden in 1995. After his graduation, he joined the tax department of the law firm NautaDutilh as an attorney-at-law. From 2006 thru 2013 Derk practised at the law firm Van Mens & Wisselink and in 2014 he switched to the tax boutique Luminous Tax Matters, which merged into the law firm AKD in 2016.

Derk's main practise areas are corporate and international taxation. He advises - mainly corporate, but also individual - clients on the Dutch and international tax aspects of their cross-border business activities with a view to avoiding double and premature taxation, minimising tax risks and maximising tax efficiency. Derk advises a wide range of corporate clients, such as manufacturers of luxury goods, property developers and investors, software licensing groups, energy companies, mining companies, financial services providers. In addition to advising those clients, Derk co-ordinates their tax compliance and he works together on their projects with professionals in other areas of expertise, such as lawyers, notaries and accountants.

Derk is a member of the Dutch Bar Association (Nova) and the Dutch Association of Tax Advisors (NOB). He is fluent in English, French and German.
